We moved to La Puente in early 1957. Finished the last half of first grade at Edgewood, 2nd-6th grade at Thomas Erwin, back to Edgewood for 7-8 and on to Bishop Amat for 4 years graduating in 1969.
I grew up at 14204 Dancer St. When we first moved there from West Los Angeles Erwin school was being built. East side of Sunkist Avenue was still a field.
My older brother and I both worked at Food Giant in the Sunkist Shopping Center as bag boys in high school. I later was an apprentice in the liquor dept on Friday and Saturday nights sorting the soda and beer bottles and keeping the cooler stocked. The store manager, Louie, had his nephew work in the liquor dept like me.
There was a Brookdale Ice Cream store and Donner's Bakery in the Food Giant. Donner's had the best brownies next to my mothers.
I also threw (paper boy) the San Gabriel Daily Tribune.
A lot of great memories.
