From Karen

Thank you for posting all of this, especially with the brilliant music choices.  We moved to Covina in 1953--one of those young families who were snapping up the tract houses that replaced the orange groves (wouldn't the "old" Covinians have resented us?)
I treasured the old Covina Public Library...I could easily walk or bike there, and borrow four books at a time.  What a joy!  Loved the shot that included the old Covina Movie Theatre.  Summers, we would pay a buck for a strip of tickets that entitled us to Saturday matinees at a dime apiece.  I can still remember all the landmarks along Badillo Road, especially the beautiful Episcopal church and the city park, with its beautiful public pool (is it still there?).
We walked or biked everywhere. It never occurred to us that any harm could come to us.
Of course you remember what a big deal the opening of the San Bernardino Freeway was.  And Eastland!  We thought it was heaven.
Thanks again.  My brother Joel (now of Thousand Oaks) forwarded all of it to me.  I am retired from a public radio station in Iowa, and I'm in suburban Salt Lake City.  I was always a little disappointed that I never got to go to school in the old Covina High; we were the first class (1963) that did all four years on the new campus.(Do you remember how bad Covina High football teams were?  Now basketball...that was a very different story).
